Ciphers, 2024-

Ciphers (working title) encompasses a series of works combining assorted techniques and lines of inquiry that will result in the completed first draft of a new manuscript. Tracing the object of my investigation north from London to the Barents Sea, I will cultivate an archive of found object, ambient sound, video recordings, and other ephemera in conjunction with the writing I will be doing; both text and gathered materials could be presented in different configurations following this initial exploration. The artist as desultory cipher observes the curator as parasitic cipher and from there a narrative unfolds and unravels as both polemical and psychological fiction.

Ciphers has been generously funded by the Periculum Foundation in the Discourse Section.

Below is series of preliminary notes related to “Case-study 1: The Curator.” All of my writing projects begin as text-based paintings as I formulate my ideas. These panels below are a series of double-sided “Text-Tiles” that are intended to hang freely suspended in space, however for the purposes of photographing these early writings, they have been placed flat on the floor to give the reader a glimpse at aspects of the texts themselves. I will update this section as the work develops.
